We started the Cell article in July, 2011 through an invitation from the journal to Louis. The Chinese version was submitted on September 1, 2011, as requested by the Cell editor (translation started on August 25).
The Lasker nomination was submitted in January 2010.
Lasker foundation sent some people to China to investigate, and the nomination was known among some people in biology field in China. For example, Someone not related to malaria field in China told me the nomination in July. His information came from a Lasker Committee member. So it is not surprising that Rao heard something.
Mr. Liu, please keep our other nomination private (as Louis indicated). It is a messy issue and any hint of nomination will cause problems.
